This is indeed a case of "one day bush meat go catch the hunter"! It was indeed a sad case as latest findings have shown that some senior police officers now engage in armed robbery operations secretly.
It was gathered that a service police officer has been arrested among his gang of armed robbers during their robbery operation. Surprisingly, the inspector confessed that he was introduced into the dirty operation by a serving Police ASP...
The 60-year-old serving Police Inspector Nanagha Aduoumeni, who is a member of a six-man police armed robbery gang was paraded on Thursday by operatives of the 4 Brigade, Nigerian Army, in Benin.
Inspector Aduoumeni, attached to ‘A’ Department of Nigeria Police Force, Bayelsa State Command, was arrested on June 26, 2013, by troops of 222 Battalion on patrol at Orhoror Junction, along Bomadi Road in Delta State at about 2am.
The Brigade Public Relations Officer, Capt. Roselyn Managbe, who addressed journalists on behalf of the Brigade Commander, Brig-Gen. Pat Akem, said Inspector Aduoumeni was caught blocking the road with woods, while other members of his gang who were armed, took cover in thick bush along the road.
“When they sighted the Nigerian Army Quick Response Group driving towards them, Inspector Nanagha tried to withdraw back into the bush, but he was caught while other members of his gang escaped into the creeks,” Capt. Managbe explained.
In his confessional statement, the robber/police officer revealed that members of his gang were all serving police personnel who indulge in robbery activities after their normal police duties.
“The suspect also confessed that Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Okubopagha and Inspector Okoro of ‘B’ Department, Nigeria Police, are members of his gang.”
Inspector Aduoumeni who confirmed his involvement in a robbery operation, said he joined the Police Force May 1st, 1982 and that he was introduced to armed robbery by an ASP, claiming that he was caught in his first operation with the gang.
He said: “I was arrested at Bomadi. I was caught the first day I joined. We were six in number. Others were in uniform but I was not. The ASP introduced me, they were with Police guns. We robbed only two vehicles. When we were about to go they gave me only N5,000.00. I don’t know how they collected the money.”
Asked how he feels with his arrest, the suspect and father of two from Ayakoromo, Delta State, said, “I feel for my children and wife now that I have been arrested."
The army said said the police-robber would be handed over to the police authority for prosecution.
