So spare a thought for a couple who had to delay their nuptials after a man cut off his own testicles and burst into the church they were due to be married.
The vicar at All Saints Church in Brentwood, Essex, was putting the final touches to the church with the florist when they were startled by the man who stormed in covered in blood.
A pal of the bride and groom, who were not at the venue when the incident took place, were told by the vicar guests would not be allowed inside while police attended the scene.
He told Brentwood Weekly News: "There was blood all over the floor just outside the church.
"When I went in there it was like someone had been murdered. There was blood everywhere.
"The vicar knew of the man and said he had come into the church as they were setting up.
"He said the man had chopped his testicles off with a pair of scissors and was going berserk, chucking chairs around. I’m surprised he didn’t pass out."
The guest, who did not want to be named, saw what he thought was part of an arm on the floor... but was in fact one of the man's testicles.
An ambulance took the injured man to hospital and the wedding took place half an hour later with the bride none the wiser about the horror that had just unfolded.
The witness said: "There was a bit of an atmosphere.
"The bride didn’t know anything about it. I’m sure she does now."
A spokesman for Essex Police said: "Police were called by the ambulance service to the church at around 12.25pm.
"A man with mental health problems was found in the church with serious injuries. He was taken to hospital to be treated.
"The man was later referred for a mental health assessment."
