News: First Bank To Shut Down Operations From Thursday To Monday

Customers of First Bank Limited may find it difficult to carry out some banking transactions from Thursday to Monday due to the decision to shut down the bank’s branches nationwide during the period.

Punch gathered that the decision to shut down operations in order to facilitate the migration to Finacle 10 would affect the bank’s over 700 branches nationwide.The shutdown, according to the bank, is to enable it upgrade its core banking application from Finacle 7 to Finacle 10, which will ensure easier and faster customer services and experience.

Apart from all the branches being shut, Point of Sale transactions and transaction alerts by Short Message Service will not be possible during the period. In addition, all card services, except Visa prepaid card, will not be available via Quick Teller and the Web.

First Bank said in an explanatory note, “All transactions that will impact on the banking platform e.g. settlements, inter bank (RTGS, NEFT, FIP) inflows, will not be available.”

Riot At Anambra State University After Two Students Were Shot Dead By Robbers

There was riot in Igbariam campus in Anambra State University this morning. Heard things have died down a bit. According to unconfirmed reports which I am getting from students of the school, who are also sending in photos, armed robbers invaded the students' lodge last night to rob and they ended up shooting quite a few students. One student died last night, while another one who was shot died early this morning in the hospital.

News: Gunmen Kill Alhaji Murtala Attahiru Wauru, Sokoto House Member

Some gunmen, suspected to be robbers, on Monday night killed a Sokoto lawmaker, Murtala Attahiru Wauru, and made away with his vehicle. Wauru, who was representing Gada West Constituency in Sokoto East Senatorial District, was also the Chairman of the House of Assembly Committee on Finance and Appropriation.

The police said they have not made any arrest in connection with the incident. Wauru’s killers reportedly trailed and attacked him at Mabera area of the town at 9.30pm when he was returning home from a meeting.

“We were sitting in a group when we heard gunshots. We were all scared. Some of us even took cover,” said a resident who did not want to be named. Police spokesman Al-Mustapha Sani, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), confirmed the incident. He said: “We got information on the incident. Investigations are ongoing. The police commissioner is attending the burial.”

Police Commissioner Sha’aibu Lawal Gambo yesterday told reporters after the burial that the late lawmaker was trailed to a dark area at Mabera, on the outskirts of the town, where he was killed. Gambo said: “Investigation showed that he was shot while he struggled with the armed robbers over the car.

“The men of the command recovered four empty shells, an indication that the weapon used in the attack was an AK 47 assault rifle. “The command is working hard to unravel the killers of the legislator with a view to prosecuting them.”

ANGELINA JOLIE First Appearance Since Mastectomy Announcement

In her first red carpet appearance since announcing she underwent a double mastectomy, Angelina Jolie posed for pics with Brad Pitt today at the London premiere of his movie "World War Z."

In an op-ed piece for the New York Times last month, Jolie revealed she underwent a preventative double mastectomy back in February because "doctors estimated that I had an 87 percent risk of breast cancer and a 50 percent risk of ovarian cancer."

Since making the announcement, Jolie has been recovering at home in Los Angeles before taking on her next project -- directing a film called "Unbroken."

Looks like a little fashionista is joining the Kardashians.

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West are expecting a girl. The baby's gender was revealed on the Season 8 premiere of "Keeping Up With the Kardashians."

The cameras followed Kim to her doctor's appointment, where she, sisters Kourtney and Khloe, and mom Kris Jenner discovered the baby's sex.

Kris asked Paul Crane, Kim's doctor, if he "saw a little peepee" in the ultrasound. No peepee was to be found, and Dr. Crane said he was 99% sure it was a girl. 

Khloe revealed on "Watch What Happens Live" that Kim is due in July. Now, the only question remains: is baby's name going to start with a K?

On Sunday, Kim's friends and family gathered for her baby shower -- where Kanye even showed!

Tension In Abuja As Security Operatives Continue To Besiege Amigo Supermarket, Wonderland Amusement Park

Security operatives have continued to lay siege on the premises of Amigo Supermarket and Wonderland Amusement Park in Abuja following an alleged link between one of its Lebanese co-owners, Fauzi Fawad, and a terror group.

Last week, officers of Nigeria’s anti-terror agency, the Joint Task Force, recovered a cache of weapons in a depot reportedly owned by a Lebanese businessman. A security source disclosed that three Lebanese men were also arrested after a raid on the depot. The raid was triggered by a tip that there was an underground bunker in the home a Lebanese businessman. Security operatives searched the house as well as other locations in the city.

When asked to mention the most expensive fashion item he has in a recent Punch interview, D'banj said he has a $50, 000 (N7.9m) FM wrist watch and has another watch that Jay Z also owns.

Meet 3 year old Nigerian photographer - Fuji Remet

I'm sharing this post for two reasons: One, to introduce Fuji to Nigerians so we can celebrate him and two, to discuss if it's OK for a 3 year old to already have a career. He has an exhibition coming up so yes, he has a career! CNN profiled the young budding photographer on Inside Africa yesterday and below is what they wrote about Lil Fuji... 

While most children his age in Nigeria - and the rest of the world - are more concerned with their toys than a career, Onafujiri "Fuji" Remet has already embarked on his mission to become a professional photographer.

Proud dad Pius Kugbere Remet sent in these images of his talented young son posing with family and at work in Lagos.

Himself an artist and graphic designer, he says Fuji's inspiration came from the work of his creative family.

Little Fuji even has an exhibition coming up in Lagos on June 8. Not bad for a three-year-old.
